LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION FOR NEWCOMERS TO
CANADA (LINC)
MAGMA offers full time English as a Second Language classes
(Literacy, Level 1, 2, and 3) to immigrants and refugees. The
language-training program is designed to help clients develop
listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar skills.
We also offer French as a Second Language classes. Moreover,
MAGMA offers tutoring services in both official languages
for clients living outside of the Greater Moncton Area.
Before language training is provided, clients' language abilities
are assessed using the Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment.
After completing this assessment, clients are referred to an
appropriate class. School-aged children are not accepted, as
they will be admitted to a public school.
Our students are from different countries and of different
cultures. Therefore, the classes also offer them an opportunity
to exchange experiences, practice languages, socialize and
make friends. Furthermore, our program offers occasional field
trips to promote a better integration into the community. Field
trips also offer supervised opportunities to practice communication
skills. In addition, childminding services for pre-schoolers
are provided on premises during class hours.
